Friday Digital Roundup

The Friday Digital Roundup is a witty take on the weird world of the internet. With fun stories from around the globe, it’s the only email newsletter you’ll actually read and enjoy!

We do love writing it, but clearly not as much as people like receiving it - just look at the response we got when a technical hitch meant it wasn’t sent out on time!

Coffee and the FDR is how I start my Friday.
Do not engage until I have devoured both

Meschi Consultants @MeschiConsult

When it comes to the end of the week, there is no better way to start a Friday than with a run around the internet with Todd and Jo in the FDR. Just don't let them know I do it from the loo!

Social Media Days – Should You Be Using Them?

social, Social Media, social media marketing

June 18th was international sushi day. It was also international picnic day. Oh, and don’t forget it’s international chicken wing day on July 1st! There’s a social media day for everything, it seems. So, should you be promoting them on your social media?

Well, the answer is: yes, and no.

Social Media Days – Should You Be Using Them?

Yes!

If the social media day is relevant to your product or service, then yes! Go ahead. Go crazy.

These specific days can be a great way to engage with your target audience – if you’re an ice cream shop, that sells waffles, it makes perfect sense for you to be posting about your waffles on International Waffle Day.

Planning is paramount

Make sure you get your ducks in a row before you start posting. We’ve said it before, and we’ll say it again but planning your posts is KEY.

Use a reputable website, such as this website to check relevant social media days, and schedule posts for that day!

Go content crazy

Some social awareness holidays can be a jumping-off point for content creation. Think International Women’s Day, World Vegetarian Day, or World Mental Health Day. These kinds of days are great to create content – show off the women in your office, share a delicious recipe, or send a friendly message to your followers.

You’re opening the floodgates

By using a # Day, you’re inviting the wolves into your house for lunch – or however the saying goes.

Common hashtags can be like a playground for trolls, and by tagging your post in popular ones, you’re inviting everyone in to see your content. So be ready!

Keep it relevant

If not, then why bother? It doesn’t make sense for an IT company to use #WorldSushiDay, or #WorldTowelDay (yes, that’s a real one – Google it).

If anything, it’ll just oversaturate the hashtag for that specific day, making it more and more difficult for relevant content to be shown to users that are going out of their way to search for it.
