Friday Digital Roundup

The Friday Digital Roundup is a witty take on the weird world of the internet. With fun stories from around the globe, it’s the only email newsletter you’ll actually read and enjoy!

We do love writing it, but clearly not as much as people like receiving it - just look at the response we got when a technical hitch meant it wasn’t sent out on time!

Coffee and the FDR is how I start my Friday.
Do not engage until I have devoured both

Meschi Consultants @MeschiConsult

When it comes to the end of the week, there is no better way to start a Friday than with a run around the internet with Todd and Jo in the FDR. Just don't let them know I do it from the loo!

People Are Not On Social Media to Buy From You. You Need to Re-think This…

Content Marketing, Facebook, LinkedIn, social, Social Media, Twitter

What’s the number one reason people go to social media? What do you think it is?

Why do you go to social media? What’s the number one reason you go?

It’s not to buy my stuff, is it?

So, people aren’t turning up to social media to buy from you either!

They’re there to pass the time. To connect with people. To be part of a community. To watch cat videos.

People Are Not On Social Media to Buy From You. You Need to Re-think This…

That’s really what social media is. With the exception of LinkedIn, which is more of a networking tool, most people just spend time on social media because they’re addicted to it or they’re passing the time and looking for that next dopamine hit.

So how are you going to get your message across to those types of people?

You have to consider their mindset. They’re not there to buy from you. They’re there to be entertained or educated. Most of us go online to get information, to make ourselves smart, to pass the time while we’re waiting for a friend to turn up for a drink.

That’s why we’re on social media.

It’s unlikely that they’re going to buy from you straight away. So, make sure that when you appear on social media you’re sharing really simple, useful content. And make sure you’re going to follow up with more content.

Yes, it’s white noise. Yes, it’s just being in the background all the time, but don’t go in just for the sales pitch.

You’ve heard this so many times that sales don’t work on social media. Well, they do, but not just by outwardly selling all the time…

There’s nothing wrong with selling on social media. I’ve absolutely sold on social media, but I’m there adding a lot more value. 80% value, 20% sales.

Just think about it: What’s the number one reason people go to social media?

It’s not to buy your stuff. It is to be entertained or educated, and if you can fit both of those boxes, then you might just win some sales. I hope that helps.

Exactly. Social media is great for promoting events, sharing relevant articles, and giving beneficial advice for your audience. Great article!
